Danish bastards…!

According to information received by Pouch Patrol, the new proposal from Denmark is not a compromise, but rather a declaration of war. The Danish Presidency is pursuing the Commission’s agenda, or possibly its own, rather than seeking to unite Europe. A breakdown is to be expected at Thursday’s decision-making meeting.

1. The ‘revised’ proposal does not address:

• The many comments from Member States during the previous working party meeting.

• The political statements from ministers during the last Ecofin meeting that ‘tax rates are too high’.

• The amendments and comments submitted to the Danish Presidency by Sweden and many other countries for inclusion in the revised text.

2. The ‘revised’ proposal has completely incorrect tax policy principles.

• ‘High health damage = high tax and low health damage = low tax’ is not respected.

• Introduction of a minimum tax per unit in addition to the previous proposal per kilogram, 143 euros per kilogram or per 1,000 nicotine pouches.

• Nicotine pouches that vary greatly in weight (0.2 to 1 gram) are most affected, and a unit tax ignores these differences.

3. The new negotiated proposal is worse than the previous proposal.
